Ingredients of Masoor Dal Khichdi

  1. 1 Cup masoor dal
  2. 1 cup rice
  3. 4 cups water
  4. 1 Onion, finely chopped
  5. 1 Tomato, finely chopped
  6. 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  7. 1 tsp cumin seeds
  8. 1 tsp haldi
  9. 1 tsp garam masala
  10. Salt to taste
  11. 2 tbsp ghee
  12. Fresh coriander leaves (for garnish)

How to Prepare

  1. Start by rinsing the masoor dal and rice separately under running water until the water is clear. Soak them for about 30 minutes.
  2. Heat ghee in a pressure cooker and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped onions and Saute until golden brown.
  3. Add ginger-garlic paste and Saute for another minute. Then, add chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften.
  4. Drain the soaked dal and rice, and add them to the cooker.
  5. Add turmeric, garam masala, and salt, mixing well. Pour in 4 cups of water and combine everything.
  6. Close the lid and cook on high for two whistles. Reduce the heat and let it cook for 10 more minutes.
  7. Stir the khichdi, garnish with coriander leaves, and serve hot. Enjoy!
