Ingredients of Kerala Style Parippu (Masoor Dal) Curry
- 1/2 cup Masoor dal
- 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- to taste Salt
- Water, to boil the dal
- For coconut curry paste:
- 1/2 cup Freshly grated coconut
- 2-3 Green chillies
- 1/2 tsp Jeera
- 1 tbsp Chopped onion
- Water, to blend
- For tadka:
- 1 tbsp Coconut oil
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 8-10 Curry leaves
- 2 Red chillies
- 2 tbsp Onion, sliced
How to Prepare
- Rinse the dal and pressure cook it with turmeric powder, salt, and water for 5-6 whistles.
- Let the pressure release completely, then whisk the dal into a smooth paste. Adjust the salt if needed and set it aside.
- In a blender, combine grated coconut, green chili, cumin seeds, onion, and water. Blend into a smooth paste.
- Pour the cooked dal and coconut paste into a pan and boil on medium heat for 6 minutes.
- For the tadka, heat coconut oil or ghee in a pan. Add mustard seeds, red chili, and curry leaves. Sauté onions until golden brown.
- Pour the tadka over the dal-coconut curry and serve hot.
