Beetroot Uttapam Recipe Ingredients

  1. 2 Cups idli/ dosa batter
  2. 2 small Beetroots
  3. 1 Onion, finely chopped
  4. 1 small Tomato , finely chopped
  5. 1/2 Capsicum, finely chopped
  6. 3 Green Chillies, finely chopped
  7. Oil for cooking
  8. Salt to taste
  9. Coriander leaves for garnish

How to Prepare

  1. Grate the beetroot into thin strands.
  2. In a bowl, combine the idli/dosa batter with the grated beetroot. If needed, add a little water to adjust the consistency, but remember that uttapam batter should be thicker than dosa batter.
  3. Mix well to get a pink-colored batter.
  4. Heat a non-stick tawa and add about ½ tsp of oil.
  5. Pour a large spoonful of batter onto the tawa. Unlike dosa, keep the batter thick and do not spread it too thin.
  6. Top with chopped veggies like onions, tomatoes, capsicum, and green chilies. Gently press them into the batter.
  7. Sprinkle a pinch of salt and drizzle more oil along the edges. Cover and cook for a few minutes.
  8. Once the bottom turns golden brown, flip the uttapam and cook the other side. Be careful not to burn the vegetables.
  9. Transfer to a plate, garnish with coriander, and serve hot with coconut chutney.
